Summer activities hosted by the Park District

A Night at the Movies – 8PM Friday, June 1, at Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave. This event kicks off the summer with “The Parent Trap.”  Future movies and dates are “National Treasure” on June 30, “Finding Nemo” on July 14 (at Frontier Sports Complex), “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” on Aug. 4 and “Monsters, Inc.” on Sept. 22. 

Live acoustic music at the Café – 6-8PM Saturday, June 2, on the patio at the Riverwalk Café, 441 Aurora Ave., featuring Andrew Huber. Guests may enjoy live acoustic music on the patio on Saturday evenings this summer, weather permitting. Several local artists will perform on most Saturdays during June, July and August.

Frontier Kite Fly Festival – 10AM -4PM Sunday, June 3, at Frontier Sports Complex, 3380 Cedar Glade Dr. Presented by Naperville Moms Network, the Kite Festival offers fun for all ages and a rare opportunity to view gigantic kites flown by kite enthusiasts from Chicago Kite. Participants also can practice flying their own kites and get how-to-fly tips from the experts. Free entertainment will feature the Neuqua Valley High School Steel Band, Battle of the Bands 3rd place band, The Boys, Miss Jamie from the Farm, and more.

Tuesday Evening Summer Recital Series – 7PM Tuesday, June 5, at the Naperville Millennium Carillon, 443 Aurora Ave. Carillonneurs from Naperville and around the world will perform, while audiences are invited to picnic on the lawn at Rotary Hill and enjoy the free music. Recitals continue weekly through Aug. 21. Here’s a link to other regularly scheduled carillon concerts, too.

95th Street Farmers Market – 3-7PM Thursday, June 7, at the 95th Street Library parking lot, 3015 Cedar Glade Dr. Naperville Park District and the 95th Street Library are partnering to offer a new farmers market with locally grown produce, baked goods, jams and other items. The market continues weekly through Sept. 27.

Concerts in Your Park – 7PM Sunday, June 10, at Queensbury Greens, 1520 Brookdale Rd. This opening concert features the Midwest Dueling Pianos and kicks off a series of six events, each at a different park throughout the community. Concert dates are June 24 and July 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Children’s Lunch Hour Entertainment – 10:30AM Tuesday, June 12, at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Sindt Court, featuring Todd Downing. Five additional performances alternate between the Riverwalk and Frontier Sports Complex, bring a variety of talented local children’s entertainers and are scheduled for June 19, June 26, and July 10, 17 and 24.

Created in 1966, the Naperville Park District is an independent, municipal agency serving the recreation needs of its residents. An Illinois Distinguished Agency since 1994, the District is one of only 1% of park districts across the country to be nationally accredited through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). The Naperville Park District’s mission is to provide recreation and park experiences that promote healthy lives, healthy minds and a healthy community. The District maintains and operates more than 2,400 acres with 137 parks and provides more than 1,500 recreational, arts and environmental programs and special events annually. Included within the District’s operations are two championship golf courses, a multitude of playgrounds, trails, athletic courts and sports fields, Fort Hill Activity Center, Knoch Knolls Nature Center, two inline skating and skateboarding facilities, the Millennium Carillon, a paddle boat quarry, historic Centennial Beach, and the beautiful Riverwalk.
