Last donation drive for our AAUW Naperville Area Used Book and Media Sale which funds scholarships, fellowships and other programs for women and girls. They love hardcover/paperback books, CD’s DVD’s and LP’s in good condition. No encyclopedias, Condensed books, textbooks, American Heritage, or VHS tapes. Riverwalk Summer Reading Kickoff – 6PM | Free
Naperville Riverwalk – 736 W. Jackson Ave. Naperville, IL 60540
Celebrate the beginning of summer and the library’s reading program with a Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration at the Riverwalk. Participants can dance to their favorite songs, join in for sing-alongs, and then enjoy an exciting performance by juggler Jason Kollum. Enjoy Jason’s interactive, high-energy show featuring balancing and juggling stunts, cool skills with spinning balls, frisbees and a variety of interactive skills. Summer reading logs will be available. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be held in the Community Room at Nichols Library.

Wednesday evening, the creative folks at Che Figata offered Mayor Steve Chirico a big pair of scissors to cut a long roll of pizza dough for its ceremonial grand opening with the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. The new restaurant in CityGate Centre opens every day at 11AM.

Caseys Foods located at Naperville Plaza will be firing up its grill every Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 2PM through October, weather permitting. Choose from a variety of options, including burgers, brats, tacos or the weekly special. It’s great food, at a good price, in a fun atmosphere. Watch for Saturday specials, too, at the Butcher Counter and the Gourmet Foods Section. Find this week’s Saturday specials, including Casey’s Atlantic Salmon  only $11.98/lb. and Casey’s Grilled Vegetable Medley only $4.98/lb, between 8AM and 7PM while supplies last.

The 17th Annual Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Fund G.L.O.W. 5K Run for Reading is Sat., June 2. This nighttime 5K family run/walk will take place at the Historic 5th Ave Station in Naperville. St. John United Church of Christ – 1190 Olesen Drive Naperville, IL 60540
Church services in the German language will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 3. The service will be led by Pastor Dr. Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. St. John UCC is located at 1190 Olesen Drive. German-language services are held on the first Sunday of every month and will continue on July 31 and August 5. For more information, call (630) 355-5208.

Located on Jackson at Webster along the Riverwalk, the Dandelion Fountain is the centerpiece in a popular gathering place. The idea came from Charles Vincent “Chuck” George, the architect who helped create the original design for our city’s natural treasure to commemorate the City’s sesquicentennial in 1981.

Upcoming North Central College graduation ceremonies 

North Central College Commencement will be held on Sat., June 9, inside the Res/Rec Center. At 9:40AM, graduates will begin the processional from Merner Field House into the center for the commencement ceremony at 10AM. Doors open at 8:30AM.  Open seating is first come, first served. The ceremony also may be viewed on the big screen in Wentz Concert Hall or online at northcentralcollege.edu/commencement.

2019 Derby Party

Save the date, Sat., May 4, 2019, for next year’s Derby Party. In case you missed it, check out photos of recent fun to benefit Hesed House when Justify won the first leg of the Triple Crown. (Note! On May 19, the Preakness Stakes, took place from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, and Justify won. Next up on June 9 for horse racing enthusiasts, the Belmont Stakes in New York just might produce a rare Triple Crown Winner!)

Get to know your local independent businesses, too, the group that meets at Kreger’s Brat & Sausage Haus at 6PM on the first Monday of the most months.

During the meeting on Mon., June 4, at Kreger’s Brat & Sausage Haus, IBN members again will gear up for the Find Waldo campaign in July. Kreger’s is open 11 to 5:30 Friday and 11 to 4:30 Saturday.

So… that means the next IBN meeting is Mon., June 4.

From 6-6:50PM, Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico will return to present the latest happenings on the Naperville scene. Thanks for arriving prior to 6PM in order to get started on time.

Then on July 9, an irregular second Monday meeting due to Independence Day, the program will feature a presentation by Terry Quain, Co-leader, Greater Naperville Area Chapter, regarding developments with Citizens’ Climate Lobby.
