Alert! Due to the forecast of extreme heat tomorrow, May 28, the 2018 Naperville Memorial Day Parade has been canceled.

The annual observance in Central Park will begin at 11AM.

The early morning flag raising ceremonies will be held as scheduled.

North Central College offers five performances of the socially conscious musical “Vinegar Tom” at 7:30PM May 24-26 and 2PM. May 26-27 in the Theatre at Meiley-Swallow, 31 S. Ellsworth St. Written at the height of the second wave of feminism in 1976 by British playwright Caryl Churchill, the play examines gender and power relationships through the lens of 17th century witchcraft trials in England. The Naperville Park District announces its Memorial Day Weekend operating hours for facilities and the opening of Centennial Beach for the season at 11AM on Sat., May 26. Caseys Foods located at Naperville Plaza will be firing up its grill every Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 2PM through October, weather permitting. Choose from a variety of options, including burgers, brats, tacos or the weekly special. Its great food, at a good price, in a fun atmosphere. Watch for Saturday specials, too, at the Butcher Counter and the Gourmet Foods Section. Casey’s Pork K-bobs are only $7.98/lb. And for the first time, Casey’s Bang Bang Brussel Sprouts, a new specialty, are only $5.98/lb.

His new title, The Soul of America, highlights other times when our government has weathered storms and the darkest strife. Monday – Memorial Day

For more than 90 years, observances at local cemeteries with ceremonial red poppy wreath laying are included to commemorate Memorial Day in Naperville. Prior to the parade, veterans decorate local cemeteries and veterans’ monuments. During the parade they pause at Veterans Plaza along the Riverwalk and after the parade they recognize fallen soldiers in Central Park.

Note: Morning flag raising services will begin 15 minutes earlier again this year.

7:45AM – Flag raising and service at 9/11-Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial – (taps & volley)

8:15AM – Service at Veterans Park (Gartner Rd.) – (taps & volley)

8:35AM – Service at Burlington Square Park Doughboy Monument – (taps & volley)

9AM – Service at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery (taps & volley)

9:45AM – Service at GAR Monument in Naperville Cemetery – (taps & volley)

Memorial Day Parade Begins at 10:30AM

10:30AM – Advance section of parade steps off from Jackson and Ewing. Spectators are asked to line the street east of Ewing in order to enjoy all the band in the parade.

10:40AM – Service at Veterans Plaza, corner of Webster & Jackson. Then the Main Parade steps off from Jackson & West St., East to Washington, North to Benton, East to Court Place (Veterans & Military Units), East to Ss. Peter & Paul parking lot.

Memorial Day Observance in Central Park at 11AM (Note hour change)

11AM – Immediately following the conclusion of the colorful red, white and blue parade, an observance with patriotic messages from guest speakers and musical tributes performed by the Naperville Municipal Band again will be held in Central Park at the Community Concert Center. Additional selected music will be provided by Metea Valley High School during the 30-minute observance. 

Editor’s Note: With plenty of seating on park benches, the annual Memorial Day Observance in Central Park is another meaningful way to pay tribute to all military service men, women and families who have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect this nation’s freedom.
