You know what I like most about spring? Being able to head outside again without donning layer after layer of outdoor gear. If you have kids, the best part is watching them burn off that excess energy outside instead of running circles inside.
If you are ready to venture outside, like I am, head on over to the Sensory Garden Playground (SGP). This is a play space I encourage every family with young children to visit. The completed Phase One of the SGP is perfect for ages 2-5. They can experience the sound of large drums and chimes in the Sound Garden, soar through the air on high-back swings or run through the Pony Stables Playground.
The SGP is a universally accessible playground which allows all children, with and without disabilities, to play together. Everything can be easily reached by accessible paths, which is especially beneficial for children or parents with a physical disability.
Though the SGP is open every day, just like any other playground, all families are invited to come out to one of the special Play Days taking place this summer. This is a great time to explore the area and take advantage of the family-friendly activities including: face-painting, bubbles, story time, chalk play and a whole lot of more.
Each play day has a theme to it. May: Tree House Groundbreaking Celebration. June: Teddy Bear Clinic with DuPage Medical Group. July: Nature Story Telling with Lincoln Marsh Natural Area. August: Learn About Animals with Cosley Zoo.
2018 Summer Play Days are May 19, June 16, July 21, and August 18 from 10AM-noon. They are free and open to the public. The SGP is located at 2751 Navistar Dr., Lisle (inside Danada South Park, just northeast of Warrenville and Naperville roads).
The Play for All Playground & Garden Foundation responsible for the development of the SGP is comprised of the following organizations: Wheaton Park District, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), Kiwanis Club of Wheaton, Wheaton Rotary AM, Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, Landscape Structures, and Shane’s Inspiration.
