Fire Prevention 24-7 – Spring?

-

I think it is safe to say that spring has finally sprung! When you are doing your spring cleaning, pay extra attention to your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Cleaning your alarms involves two activities: 1) vacuuming out the unit; and 2) wiping down the outside vents. When was the last time you put new batteries in them? You should be replacing the batteries at least once a year.

While you are at it, check the cords in your house. Make sure you don’t have overloaded outlets and that none of your cords is being pinched under furniture or behind it. Unplug anything that is not being used, like your phone charger! When your phone is fully charged, unplug the charger.

Do you use extension cords? Extension cords should only be for temporary use. Replace them with a surge protected power strip for greater peace of mind.
