NCC’s student run award-winning radio station WONC 89.1 FM will be celebrating its 50th anniversary starting at 10AM Friday, May 11, in and outside of Oliver Hall, 232 E. Chicago Ave. In addition to 50 years of broadcasting pure rock, the station will also celebrate the retirement of John Madormo, who has been the station’s general manager and broadcast communication faculty for the past 38 years. The event is free and open to the public.

Chicago Sinfonietta Presents Praise + Punk in an Ultimate battle of the Bands to Conclude Season – 8PM | $10-$62

Upcoming graduation ceremonies 

High school graduations will wrap up the month of May.  Naperville Central and Naperville North graduations in School District 203 are slated for Mon., May 21; followed by Metea Valley, Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley graduations in School District 204 on Sun., May 27, at the Northern Illinois Convocation Center, 1525 West Lincoln Highway in DeKalb, IL. 

Turning Pointe Career College graduation is set to begin at 1PM Fri., May 18, at the Marriott on Diehl Road.

North Central College Commencement will be held on Sat., June 9, inside the Res/Rec Center. At 9:40AM,  
graduates will begin the processional from Merner Field House into the center for the commencement ceremony at 10AM. Doors open at 8:30AM.  Open seating is first come, first served. The ceremony also may be viewed on the big screen in Wentz Concert Hall or online at northcentralcollege.edu/commencement.

2019 Derby Party

Save the date, Sat., May 4, 2019, for next year’s Derby Party. In case you missed it, check out photos of recent fun to benefit Hesed House when Justify won the first leg of the Triple Crown. (Note! On May 19, the Preakness Stakes, takes place from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, and Justify is the early Preakness favorite at 1-2.)
