One of the most popular Exchange youth projects is the Youth of the Month/Year Award.
This award recognizes hard-working high school students who attain high levels of scholastic achievement, community involvement and leadership. This proven program not only rewards outstanding young people, but also provides an incentive for other youngsters to strive for equally high levels of achievement. Each student is required to write an essay. This year the essay theme was “Strengthening America through Socially Responsible Communities”.
At the April 19 club meeting, the Exchange Club of Naperville honored the following students: Lauren Aucoin, Waubonsie Valley High School, Michael Cleary, Benet Academy, Colleen McCormack, Benet Academy, Abinaya Ramakrishnan, Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy, Renee Samp, Naperville North High School and Alexa Jordan, Metea Valley High School. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship.
Alexa was chosen as the Youth of the Year and her essay will be sent to the Lincolnland District for nomination to be the District Youth of the Year.
Katherine Raquel, Naperville North High School, received the ACE Award – Accepting the Challenge of Excellence. This program recognizes high school students who have made a dramatic change in their attitude and performance during their high school years. These changes have enabled the students to overcome adversities and prepare for graduation. Katherine also received a $1,000 scholarship and her application also will be submitted to the LincolnLand District for their A.C.E. Award.
The Exchange Club of Naperville meets on the first Friday and the third Thursday each month. Please contact me at EmyTrotz@gmail.com for meeting details.
