Public feedback welcomed online for Draft Master Plan for Southwest Community Park

-

Above / Help grow interest and provide public input for the Naperville Park District Draft Master Plan for Southwest Community Park, now featured online for feedback through May 3, 2018. At this time, the Q&A states “no budget is set for the development of Southwest Community Park. Park District staff will determine budgeting once the Master Plan is completed and approved.” Consider how local tax dollars could be allocated/raised to support the plan.

UPDATE, May 2, 2018Additional feedback beyond the online survey may be emailed to Park District Executive Director Ray McGury

The Naperville Park District invites residents to view the draft master plan for Southwest Community Park and to provide feedback. Residents may email their comments to Executive Director Ray McGury at rmcgury@napervilleparks.org at any time.

Additionally, an online survey is available at www.napervilleparks.org/parks/southwestcommunitypark through May 3.

“It was brought to our attention that the survey does not allow comments without completing a ranking of park amenities,” explained Executive Director Ray McGury. “For example, if a person wanted to say that they do not want a certain amenity or even any development at the park, the survey is unable to capture that information.”

“We don’t want to limit public feedback just to the survey results,” added McGury. “We want to hear from all sides and maintain 100% transparency and openness in this process. We invite residents to contact me by email at rmcgury@napervilleparks.org if they were unable to express their opinions on the survey.”

Master Plan Presentation / 5:30PM Thurs., June 14

Following further review the draft site master plan will be presented to the board of commissioners for discussion at a special workshop at 5:30PM on Thursday, June 14, immediately preceding its regular 7PM meeting (According to the Park District’s website, the meeting is at City Hall.). As always, residents may attend the meeting and sign up to comment.  A completed master plan will be brought to the board for approval in summer 2018. The master plan will guide the District in future development of the park, which most likely will span multiple years, depending on needs, costs and funding.

Southwest Community Park is a 33-acre site located in southwest Naperville at the intersection of Wolf’s Crossing Road and Trumpet Avenue.

Editor’s Note / Input from the public appears to be at a minimum when considering the large size of this community. Perhaps making a decision on the amenities in the 33-acre park at this time is premature. Perhaps extend the survey deadline.

April and May are busy times for families with all the spring activities, proms, end-of-the-school year commitments, etc. Perhaps slow down with the ambitious planning to be sure to get it right.

One resident suggested to PN that the park district simply create a trail around the property for now. Keep the property natural with a trail for walking, jogging and biking.

Meanwhile, enjoy the blooming bluebells in Knoch Knolls Park. From the Riverwalk to May Watts to Knoch Knolls, etc., we love our attractive parks!
