There is one evening a year where I find myself in absolute awe of everyone I meet. I am not a person who gets easily star-struck. I don’t get sweaty palms or launch into incoherent babble. But I do find myself unconsciously holding my breath while witnessing people’s generosity in supporting their friends and neighbors.
It is at the WDSRA Foundation’s signature event The Black & Red Bash, held at the Abbington Distinctive Banquets in Glen Ellyn.
On this evening, hundreds of people gather to show their support of WDSRA participants and families. It is their support that makes it possible for individuals of all ages with special needs to find friends, opportunities and the promise of a quality of life that is measured solely by one’s hopes and dreams. The funds raised in that room profoundly impact the lives of our families in so many significant ways. It puts a smile on their faces and hope in their hearts as families get to enjoy the same life experiences that most of us take for granted. But it means so much more for a person or family who relies on special recreation programs.
Our theme this year is Believe. It’s because we believe in YOU to change lives! If you would like to change the lives of friends and neighbors who need your help, please join us on March 3 for an evening devoted to making sure that those hopes and dreams come true.
The evening includes, cocktails and dinner, a robust silent auction, raffles, a very popular Spirit Pull and a LIVE auction that includes some once-in-a-lifetime experiences. This year our Raise the Paddle is in support of transportation needs. Our Hall of Fame award goes to the City of Naperville honoring their commitment to the WDSRA mission and vision and their understanding of the importance of special recreation to the residents of Naperville.
And as a ‘thank you’ to YOU, after the dinner and fundraising winds down, we invite you to enjoy the high-energy, live music and comedy of dueling piano entertainment.
Please join us for this exciting evening that supports our friends and neighbors.
