Just like most of the retail world, January and February are our slowest months. We are still able to adopt a great deal of dogs, cats and other animals, but the extra stuff sits a bit. It gives us time to reevaluate products and procedures. All in an effort to keep us current and to keep your experience the way you expect from Dog Patch.
The pet industry is rapidly changing. Competition is coming from places and technology that is ever changing. Online shopping has become very real. Until recently no one would ship dog food because it was often as expensive as the food. Companies like Chewy’s and Amazon are willing to sell at a loss just to change your buying habits. Your money leaves our community and does not come back.
Furthermore, be mindful that those folks do not hire people from Naperville. They don’t get their printing done in Naperville. They don’t hire your 16-year-old kid to work after school. They don’t let your Girl Scout troop tour their business. They don’t work with your local school’s fun fairs. They don’t sponsor local rescue and adoption events. We believe that it is of vital importance to be active in our community.
Continued support for online retailers has already closed many stores like mine. Every time you buy something from one of the online retailers, unfortunately, you make our struggle more difficult.
I’m happy to say for now, that we are one of the lucky ones who will fight the fight, for independent local businesses. As always, thanks for giving us the opportunity to serve your pet needs with our experienced and knowledgeable staff at Dog Patch.
