As of 9AM Saturday, all of the arterial, priority one (main streets through subdivisions), and priority two (residential and side streets) in Naperville have been plowed curb-to-curb and salted. Contractors began a second round of snow removal at 3AM on cul-de-sacs. It will take contractors until approximately 6PM tonight to complete snow removal on cul-de-sacs.
Public Works crews have 23 large plows and salt trucks currently on the road and will be working into this evening. City crews will assist cul-de-sac contractors as conditions permit. Typically, it takes four to six passes of a plow to completely remove all snow from a street.
Naperville is in its eighth straight day of measurable snowfall. Flurries are expected through noon today, with up to 1 inch more of snowfall possible. Another round of snow is expected to begin falling at midnight tonight through noontime on Sunday, with the potential for another 2 to 4 inches of accumulating snow.
Residents are encouraged to continue checking in on their neighbors and assisting those who need help shoveling. Use caution while shoveling; take frequent breaks and shovel smaller loads as snowfall has been heavy and wet. Please also remember to clear a three-foot perimeter around fire hydrants and continue to keep parked vehicles off the streets. This will continue to give plow operators easier access to handle snow removal as additional accumulation occurs.
