Original Post, Jan. 10, 2018 / (Naperville, IL) The Rotary Club of Naperville invites individuals and members of organizations interested in International Service to come together at Northern Illinois University on Sat., Feb 10, 2018, for the first annual International Service Summit.

The summit will run from 8AM to 1PM featuring keynote speaker, Atia Abawi, with an exhibition of displays presented by service clubs, international nonprofits and support businesses.

Organizers say the summit was created to bring together community service organizations, individuals, foundations, support partners and corporations interested in serving communities throughout the world. The objective is to share project information, best practices and facilitate communication and potential synergies among the many people and organizations that are actively engaged in helping people across the globe. The summit also creates an opportunity for interested individuals to speak with these service organizations, learn more about the projects and volunteer.

“Many people and organizations are actively engaged in helping people in areas around the world,” said Uda Potgieter, Rotary Club of Naperville International Services Committee member and International Service Summit Co-Chair. “Rarely do these organizations meet to share project details, resources and lessons learned.”

Summit leaders hope that by sharing resources, organizations will be able to better use people and expertise and through collaboration be more effective executing projects. Local architect Chuck Newman, Rotary Club of Naperville International Services Committee member and International Service Summit Co-Chair added, “Many of the organizations putting together projects lack the technical expertise to implement their projects. Groups may be interested in building churches, schools, clinics, but need professional expertise to assure quality and safety. We want to facilitate those kinds of connections”.

The summit can empower community members to become personally involved in projects as volunteers.

“Many people are unaware of the opportunities that exist to volunteer their time or resources, and travel to foreign countries to personally experience other cultures in their native land” added Potgieter. “We encourage everyone, students and seniors too, to attend and see all the exciting projects happening, affecting every part of the world.”
