Naperville, Illinois — This February, the Naperville Police Department will host two presentations on identity theft prevention as part of the department’s commitment to make Naperville “A Safer Naper” through education.

6:30-7:30PM Feb. 12 at City Hall / 1-2PM Feb. 21 at 95th Street Library

Deputy Chief Jason Arres

Presentations will be held from 6:30 to 7:30PM on Mon., Feb. 12, at the Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street, and from 1-2PM on Wed., Feb. 21, at the 95th Street Library, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive.

Identity theft occurs when a thief steals someone’s personal information, such as a full name or social security number, to commit fraud. The identity thief can use the information to fraudulently apply for credit, file taxes or get medical services.

In February’s presentations, Naperville Police will address various types of identity theft, including tax fraud, and educate participants on the best ways to safeguard their personal information and reduce the risk of victimization. Presenters also will be available to answer questions.

“Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America, and constant vigilance is one of the best ways to protect yourself,” said Deputy Chief Jason Arres. “Our detectives and crime prevention specialists are extremely knowledgeable on how thieves get their hands on people’s private information, and we’re eager to get this message out to residents so they can protect themselves.”

“A Safer Naper” is a year-long campaign of the Naperville Police Department that features a new safety theme each month to educate residents on how to prevent crime and enhance their safety.
