Naperville Woman’s Club is set to talk about local historic preservation on Jan. 17

-

Above / This used to be the Naperville Woman’s Club, located at 14 S. Washington Street in downtown Naperville. And it still is. Today the landmark building continues to serve as the home of one the city’s oldest philanthropic organizations. The charming landmark also is available for rentals.

The Old Stone Church is an historic landmark in downtown Naperville.

The Naperville Woman’s Club will host its monthly meeting beginning at 11:30AM, Wed., Jan. 17, including lunch, program and business in its landmark clubhouse, located at 14 S. Washington St. in downtown Naperville.

The program is titled “Historic Preservation in Naperville” and will be presented by Naperville residents Joni Hirsch Blackman and Becky Simon.

The presentation will include research from Blackman’s book, This Used to Be Chicago, a collection of buildings with an historic past and a purposeful future that was published in September 2017. In addition, Simon, president of Save Old Nichols Library, a recently-established nonprofit organization, will add to the story about her group’s initiative to preserve the original Nichols Library opened in 1898 as the gateway to downtown Naperville, standing at 110 S. Washington to represent the city’s dedication to culture, literacy, education, philanthropy and entrepreneurism.

During the business meeting, members will be updated about the Naperville Woman’s Club’s first-ever Witches Night Out in October 2017 as well as its annual art fair with a 50-plus year history, the longest running art fair in Illinois. Artists applications will be accepted through March 1, 2018. Both events are slated to be held again at Naper Settlement in 2018.

In other news, the club’s annual Young Adult Art Contest for high school students has been moved to the week of March 12, 2018, with the reception on March 16, at the clubhouse.

Members and guests also are asked to contribute to the collection of oral hygiene products that will be donated to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

Guests are welcome.
