I took a moment recently to distance myself from the never-seeming-to-end stream of horrible news.
In its place, I found my favorite movie, the kind that most of all makes me laugh, no matter how many times I’m looking at it. Filled with the kind of joy that comes like waves, I got a breath of fresh air in a place in time when the clouds of tragedy fill me with pain. Something about this laughter and then the quiet that followed led me to be profoundly grateful for the blessings life and fate have allowed.
People living through these disasters put into perspective, in every single pain they suffer, that life is a landmine likely to catch up to us at some point along the way.
The month of November will roll along into line with plans for the Thanksgiving holiday. A glance to the history that prompted this celebration needs our attention. The pilgrims suffered hardships and nature’s rage. Blessings shared are all we recreate if we place the real meaning of the holiday in our minds.
Tuning into profound gratitude takes being aware of the moments we live free of bad news in our own world, and then giving joyous thanks for the preciousness of each blessing we experience every day.
