The public is invited to the American Legion Post 43 “Oktoberfest” Dinner & Social on Sat., Oct. 21, 2017, held at the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873. The social hour begins at 6PM with dinner served at 7PM. Live musical entertainment will follow.

“Post dinners are a time to come and see old friends and enjoy the evening,” said publicist Wayne Fisher, for the American Legion. “And we welcome our members to feel free to invite a guest or two.”

To add a little flavor of Germany, this year’s entertainment will be provided by musicians in the Naperville Central High School “Oktoberfest” Chamber woodwind quintet.

According to Fischer, the dinner will be catered by “Nicky’s Catering,” featuring a menu of Greek chicken with potatoes, mixed vegetables, pork kabobs, mixed salad and dinner Rolls. Desserts again will be provided by Lee Lindberg.

The dinner price is $14 per person, payable at the door. Note that the dinner charge now is $7 per person for youth 6 to 12 years old, and free for kids under 6. A cash bar is available.

“Our goal is to break even on our dinners and socials,” said Fischer. “But the key to that is to be sure we have confirmed reservations or cancellations in advance by the Wednesday prior to the social.”

For Oktoberfest, the reservation deadline is no later than Wed., Oct. 18.  For reservations, reply via email  to wayne.l.fischer@gmail.com or call him at (630) 240-8868.

In the spirit of Veterans helping Veterans, Fischer also expressed his appreciation to members and supporters of the socials.

“Our personal support enables all of us to maintain a strong connection with our active duty military, our fellow Veterans, our community and our youth,” Fischer said.

The Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 is located at 908 W. Jackson Ave.

For future planning, the American Legion Post 43 Social and Dinners will be held on the third Saturday in January, February, March and April 2018.

The Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and American Legion Post 43 again will host their Annual Veterans Day Social and Dinner. The public is invited to join members of the posts as they mark this special day. The commemorative event begins with a social hour at 5PM on Sat., Nov. 11, followed by dinner at 6PM.

“A turkey dinner with all the trimmings” will be prepared by our World Famous “Kendall Cooks” with home-made desserts baked by “Chef” Lee Lindberg, according to Fischer, also one of the Kendall Cooks. “There’s nothing like a simple, flavored, home-cooked meal.”

As in the past, the dinner will be held in the banquet room at Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, located at 908 W. Jackson Ave.

With advance reservations, the dinner price remains at $14 per person, payable at the door.

“We are able to hold our prices the same as we have for a number of years as long as we have confirmed reservations or cancel in advance,” Fischer reminded potential guests. “Also, as this dinner has always been well attended, we will hold our reservations to 200 so as to accommodate everyone comfortably.”

Individuals are encouraged to place reservations early as they are taken on first come, first served. Seating is limited.

For reservations, reply via email  to wayne.l.fischer@gmail.com or call him at (630) 240-8868.

Remember Veterans Day at Veterans Park / ’11-11-11′

Flags fly high at Veterans Park to honor all members of the military for their service, past and present.

All Veterans Day observances are an opportunity to show appreciation to members of the armed forces, past and present, who have served and sacrificed for this great nation to help protect its freedoms.

Local veterans will host their annual Veterans Day remembrance beginning at 11AM  Tues., Nov. 11, at Veterans Park on Gartner Avenue across the street from Grace United Methodist Church.

The brief ceremony is a time to remember  “11-11-11” with patriotic music performed by the Naperville Municipal Band and thoughtful reflection about the history of this day.

Even if unable to attend the ceremony, every individual is welcomed to pause for a moment of  gratitude to pay tribute to all veterans at 11AM every Nov. 11.
