NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 1:08PM on Sunday, October 8, 2017, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from a citizen on the 1900 block of Sprucewood Ct. reporting a neighbor had evacuated a nearby house that was on fire.
PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm for the structure fire which brought a total of 3 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 1 heavy rescue squad, 2 ambulances, 1 incident commander and 1 safety officer to the scene (24 Personnel).
Engine 2 and Medic 2 arrived on the scene within 4 minutes and identified a two-story single family home with nothing showing. Incident command was established and a safety officer assigned to oversee operations at the incident. After making entry into the structure the company officer reported smoke and moderate heat conditions within the home. A hose line was deployed into the structure and a primary search of the residence was initiated.
Crews located and extinguished a kitchen fire within 5 minutes of arrival. Additional crews assisted with
establishing a water supply, ventilation and searching for the hidden fire. Engine 2 confirmed that the lone
occupant had evacuated from the structure prior to the fire departments arrival.
A medic company was assigned to evaluate the occupant who was treated and transported for injuries sustained
while attempting to extinguish the fire.
Salvage and overhaul activities were conducted to limit further damage to property and contents.
Additional assistance was provided by the Naperville Police Department, the Naperville Transportation,
Engineering and Development (TED) Department and the American Red Cross. TED declared the home
uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted with station coverage by the following fire department agencies:
Lisle Woodridge, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Westmont and Downers Grove. Lisle Woodridge also assisted on the
scene with an engine company.
There were no reported injuries to firefighters.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental by the Naperville Fire Department Fire Investigation Team.
