Word of Mouth – Not fake news

-

I am baffled by the fake news label. With our unprecedented access to facts, literally at our fingertips, no one should be taken in by “fake news.” But that is the label sometimes given to one of the fastest growing procedures in dentistry, “mini implants.”

What impresses me is how much patients know about implants before they even come in. At least 75 percent of the patients that come in for a consultation already know exactly what they want–because they have found the facts themselves.

First the facts. In January The Journal of the American Dental Association published a review of all types of implants and concluded that “Implant success does not differ significantly according to implant type.” Yet some people are still under the impression that mini implants are not a definitive solution to missing teeth. As I have explained previously, mini implants are actually five times less. Mini implants are less invasive. Less bone grafting and less bone removed to place mini implants. Most appreciated by patients because this is usually the first thing patients mention when they come in for a consultation for mini implant procedures. Patients are most impressed with the fact that little to no bone is removed to place mini implants.

The second most appreciated fact is that mini implant procedures are less expensive than the original style implants. They are usually almost half the cost of the larger diameter implant systems. Who doesn’t want to pay less? This in addition to less surgery and thus less healing time. Soft tissue (“gums”) do not need to be cut or sutured to place mini implants, so there is no open wound. Less healing time means less time waiting to place teeth.

But first review the facts for yourself, don’t be misled by what someone tells you. Visit our website at Napervilledentist.com.
