Pet Words of Wisdom – Dog Days

-

I can’t believe August dog days are here and almost gone! Chock full of many great events, this summer is seeming to zip by faster than usual.

We just wrapped up our sixth year of sponsoring the adoption tent at the DuPage County Fair—and what a big success. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to see us.

We’re also sponsoring the awesome annual Frisbee Disc event that draws contestants from all over the world on Labor Day weekend. Usually held during the Last Fling by the river, this year something new is afoot. The event has been moved to Nike Park on Sept. 2-3. This early September event is a must-see. I look forward to it every year. There’s just something about the bond between human and animal that is captivating when you experience this Frisbee competition. I’m proud to be even a small part of it.

While I’m on the subject, did you know that Naperville is the home of the Ashley Whippet Memorial Museum? This place is a collection of disc dog history and featured online at www.ashleywhippetmuseum.com. Check it out. Naperville is full of so many local treasures.

Here at Dog Patch we are beginning to button up summer. We expect Koi sales to continue through the end of the month. Then it’s time to remind folks to begin winterizing your ponds.

Animal adoptions continue to happen at a blazing pace. I’m just amazed at the number of animals we turn away because we don’t have the space. The numbers are mind blowing. With so many people working so hard in rescue, the numbers just keep growing. When will we figure this all out? Please spay/neuter your pets. So many animals are being destroyed because there is no place for them to go.

One of our loyal customers mentioned the other day for us to try to purchase the Old Nichols Library and turn into a larger space for Dog Patch. We just love it when folks think of us!

But seriously, as Naperville’s original pet store, we value what it means to many in the community to save from demolition the historic building that was Naperville’s original public library.
