‘Water Street Yesterday’ is remembered along the Riverwalk

-

During the dedication of the Water Street District on June 23, welcome remarks were given by Nick Ryan, Marquette CEO with Mayor Steve Chirico, Mayor Emeritus George Pradel, and Jeff Prosapio, Marquette Director of Project Management, as they celebrated perseverance and the timeline of nearly a decade to develop a new shopping, dining and hotel facility along Naperville’s renowned Riverwalk.

For their investment and support, gratitude was expressed to honorees, Dominick Imburgia, and Peter Foyo, after whom the fountain and the plaza are named.

Recognition of the Riverwalk extension and Century Walk Mural Series “Streaming History” was addressed by Ryan along with Riverwalk Commission Chair Geoff Roehll. Kudos were given to Century Walk, artist Debora Duran-Geiger, Naper Settlement and Bryan Ogg via Brand Bobosky, President of Century Walk Corporation, with appreciation for the generous investors.

The Century Walk mural pictured here is one of five 9 x 5 ceramic tile designs created by Debora Duran-Geiger that grace the backdrop along the Riverwalk at Water Street. “Water Street Yesterdays” depicts family homes, commerce and activities from the past. Bobosky noted the mural featuring an image of World War II veteran Walter Kelsch, in his Army uniform on the street where he lived, was a gift from the Dave Kelsch family.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
