Focus on Safety – National Night Out & other citywide events

-

The City of Naperville is excited to once again have three days of National Night Out events this July/August. National Night Out is a nationwide campaign designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships. National Night Out is Tues., Aug. 1.

Back by popular demand is the community wide kick-off event from 5-8PM at Centennial Beach on Mon., July 31. A donated breakfast item benefiting Loaves & Fishes will get you in for free. Enjoy water demonstrations and entertainment. A limited amount of food and beverages will be provided.

On Tues., Aug. 1, neighborhoods throughout Naperville and across the nation will be turning on their outdoor lights, locking their doors and spending the evening outside with their neighbors. National Night Out is an opportunity for residents to come together, meet new neighbors and reconnect with old ones. Cohesive neighborhoods are a significant key to preventing and reducing crime. It’s important for all of us to come together for the shared goal of a safe community.

On National Night Out members from the Naperville Police, Naperville Fire, Public Works, Animal Control, Electric and Water Utility departments along with the Naperville Park District Police will visit many of the registered neighborhood events.

If your neighborhood would like to participate or if you need more info, please visit www.naperville.il.us/nno.

National Night Out events will culminate with the popular Emergency Vehicle Show and new Kids Cycle Mania from 10AM to 2PM on Sun., Aug. 6, on Jackson Street between Eagle and Main streets in downtown Naperville. All ages are invited to explore the vehicles, some of which are approximately 75 years old. More modern equipment, such as S.W.A.T. and tactical and other emergency vehicles also will be on display. Cycle Mania is an interactive bike course centered on bike safety. Experience the small bike rodeo course, helmet fittings, local resources and giveaways. This event is free!

Until next month…Stay aware and stay safe.
