Ann Lord is depicted in The Great Concerto, a huge Century Walk mural that graces the door on the Community Concert Center.

UPDATE, July 1, 2018 / You could say spectacled Waldo in the red and white striped shirt is returning to Naperville in support of taking local residents on a “Tour de Independents” all during the month of July.

For starters, folks can look for Waldo as a show of independents during the Summer Municipal Band Concert Series at 7:30PM Thursdays in Central Park through Aug. 16, 2018.

Already independents Ellman’s Music Center, Positively Naperville and Catch 35 have been featured raffle sponsors during the weekly concerts.

In fact, bright and early on the Thursday morning prior to the salute to America concert to celebrate Independence Day on June 28, Waldo was spotted trying to find a good place to hide. Look for Waldo and independent friends at one of the upcoming weekly concerts when moderator Ann Lord again will promote the sponsor of the concert, most often one of Naperville’s independents!

For instance, IBN members Two Bostons will be recognized as the sponsor the band on July 5, followed by Braconi’s Restaurant on July 12.  Then in August, Naperville Bank & Trust will sponsor on Aug. 9.

Find Waldo 12 times at participating IndieBound Naperville businesses

Then remember to find Waldo 12 times during July as you explore Naperville’s independent business community. Whenever possible, show the youngsters in your life the importance of keeping local dollars where they matter most, right in your hometown.

Thanks for taking the Tour de Independents whenever possible in support of the local business community north, east, west, south and throughout downtown Naperville.

Get ready!

Now 31 years old, Waldo returns July 1-31 to Naperville’s independent business community. Pick up a “Passport” (aka Bingo Card) at Anderson’s Bookshop, then find him 12 times, collect Waldo chits, turn them into Anderson’s Bookshop, and enter the drawing to win prizes. It’s that simple.

In other words, every player needs to get 12 marks/stamps/initials in order to come back to Anderson’s Bookshop and get the first round of prizes ($2 Book Bucks and a button) and be entered to win some of the other great prizes, explained Ginny Wehrli-Hemmeter, Events and Publicity, for Anderson’s.

The raffle drawing will be held at 11AM Wed., Aug. 1, 2018, at Anderson’s Bookshop.

Look for that bright red sign in shop windows and put your money where your heart is, right here in your hometown.

Thanks for shopping, dining, banking & entertaining locally whenever possible

When you shop locally, you keep dollars in the local economy. You embrace what makes this city unique. You help create jobs for people who also will shop here. You help the environment.

You also nurture your hometown charities. You conserve local tax dollars for local revenue. You help create more choices.

Furthermore, you took advantage of services, knowledge and expertise. You invested in support of entrepreneurship. You helped create a thriving destination.

So you see… It matters to shop locally. Thanks again!

Support your local businesses and you’ll always live in a nice community. —Dan Casey
