Naperville Municipal Band presents ‘Salute to America’ and 1812 Overture with cannons

Celebrate America’s 241st birthday with Ann Lord and Conductor Ron Keller in Central Park on Thurs., June 29.

UPDATE, June 27, 2017 / The Naperville Municipal Band, under the leadership of Conductor Ron Keller, will present its annual tribute to America’s independence featuring the 1812 Overture beginning at 7:30PM Thurs., June 29, 2017, in Central Park.

Join family, friends and neighbors for this time-honored tradition, complete with cannons and costumed interpreters to reenact the rousing sounds of liberty and the days of the American Revolution from 1765 to 1783, enhanced with narration by Ann Lord.

Modern 21st century attractions at the summer concert series will offer the Gazebo Bake Sale hosted by Naperville Area AAUW and a complimentary raffle sponsored by Two Bostons. Be sure to pick up a program at the east entrance to Central Park. The first 1,000 programs are numbered for a chance to win free prizes from the weekly sponsor and the Naperville Municipal Band.

Central Park is located at 104 E. Benton Ave., just off Washington Street, and north of Jefferson Ave.

2016 Memories of ‘America the Beautiful’ in Naperville’s Central Park

Original Post, June 30, 2016 / The fourth concert of the Naperville Municipal Band’s Summer Concert Series featured “America the Beautiful” and the 1812 Overture with cannons during it annual tribute to the United States of America from sea to shining sea. What a blast!

Thousands of music-goers enjoyed the annual Fourth of July inspired concert featuring patriotic arrangements with the Naperville Men’s Glee Club and Civil War era cannons.

“It was an outstanding concert!” said Naperville resident Jane Abe, who has attended every concert so far this season with a group of friends that picnics in the park.  “Kudos to the Naperville Municipal Band and the Naperville Men’s Glee Club!”

Great concert. Beautiful night!” said Mary McMahan.

Immediately following the concert, Conductor Ron Keller greeted appreciative patrons who were expressing their gratitude for a memorable evening in Central Park.

“Our band is a ‘people band’,” said Keller. “When they see a big audience, they respond!”

Wesley United Methodist Church hosted the bake sale in the Gazebo.

The Band plays every Thursday night beginning at 7:30PM through August 18. Concerts are open to the public and free of charge.

Conductor and Music Director Ron Keller returns to strike up the 100-member band, beginning his 52nd year of leadership, a dream come true that began when he was 27 years old. Some weeks he shares his baton with guest conductors. Ann Lord again serves as concert moderator.

Each week also features an audience appreciation raffle featuring prizes from local businesses.

Catch 35  offers a special three-course “Picnic at the Park” boxed dinner, available every Thursday.
