Rotary recognizes two additional members with quilts to express gratitude for their military service

Updated Post June 22, 2017 / During its regular meeting beginning at 12PM on Thurs. , June 22, 2017, in the Pavilion at Meson Sabika, the Rotary Club of Naperville presented veterans Jim Rothermel and Ed Channell each with a Quilt of Valor in recognition of their military service.

Club Rotarians Frank Slocumb and Dick Galitz presented the Quilts to Rothermel and Channell.

“Frank and Dick are also veterans and received Quilts earlier,” said Rotarian Rachel Ossyra. “The program was introduced by Alma Jones, Community Service Director.”

Mayor Emeritus Pradel received Quilt of Valor at Feb. 9 Rotary lunch meeting

Above /  Mayor Emeritus George Pradel was honored with his personalized quilt in February during a Rotary Club of Naperville luncheon meeting in the Pavilion at Meson Sabika.

UPDATE Feb 9, 2017 / Photos depict a heart-warming ceremony when Mayor Emeritus George Pradel was joined by Rotarians previously honored with Quilts of Valor for their service in the military. Pradel, age 78, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and is a member of the Rotary Club of Naperville, also served five terms as the Mayor of Naperville, the longest of any Naperville mayor. Last May, Pradel was diagnosed with multi myeloma, which affects the blood, immune system and bones. Today he expressed his deep gratitude to his Rotary family and the other veterans who had served their country.

Original Post Feb. 7, 2017 / During its regular meeting beginning at 12PM on Thurs. , Feb. 9, 2017, in the Pavilion at Meson Sabika, the Rotary Club of Naperville will present Mayor Emeritus George Pradel with a Quilt of Valor in recognition of his military service.

Rotary President Nina Menis will preside over the ceremony, saying “This will be a very special presentation for one of our most beloved members. Mayor Pradel has served his country and community with great distinction and devotion.”

The program has been organized by Alma Jones, Community Service Director. The luncheon begins at 12:15PM; the cost for guests is $20.

On November 3, 2016, the Rotary honored 14 Rotarians who are veterans by awarding Quilts of Valor from the National Quilts of Valor Organization (QOV).

Mayor Pradel was unable to attend the November 3 program. QOV is a national 501(c)3 organization that awards beautiful quilts, handcrafted by its members, for military veterans. The Mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to “cover service members and veterans touched by war touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.” http://www.qovf.org/.

The other members of The Rotary Club of Naperville recently honored with a Quilt of Valor were Richard Stompanato, John Robbins, Pete Ellman, Marlin Reishus, Dick Galitz, Cliff Crone, Frank Slocumb, Leo Lesage, Roger Iliff, John Sims, Ron Ory, Jim Rothermel and Ed Channell.

The Rotary Club of Naperville celebrated its 75th anniversary this past year. Chartered by Rotary International on March 31, 1941, the Rotary Club of Naperville has provided service to the community by helping others for nearly 76 years. Through the inspired commitment of its members, Rotary provides college scholarships, funding for medical screenings, food pantries, homeless shelters, clean water and health initiatives worldwide, and the most important signature project of our generation, eradicating polio.

The Rotary Club of Naperville is the first of several Rotary Clubs in Naperville. Meetings are held at 12:15PM most Thursdays in the Pavilion at Meson Sabika. The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise, chartered in 1991, meets at 7AM most Fridays at Naperville Country Club. The Rotary Club of Naperville Downtown, chartered in 2007, meets at 4:44PM most Wednesdays at Hugo’s Frog Bar in the Pond Room in Main Street Promenade.

Rotary International includes over 35,000 clubs in more than 200 countries. Rotary has 1.2 million members worldwide.

The Pavilion at Meson Sabika is located at 1025 Aurora Avenue.
