Journey with Autism – The power to change comes with forgiveness

-

Your only power is the power to forgive.

I have never been a gracious person easily inclined to kind forgiveness. A person with disabling autism loops back in mind always remembering the past. It’s difficult to place the people who have wounded us far away when the events keep playing over and over in our minds.

The real opening door to understanding ourselves is looking at how much of our time and energy is spent on harboring grudges. The current political climate has produced great anger. Looking at the most important current events, listening to the world issues, living with my own big problems, I’m forced to search for common solutions to the obstacles to peaceful coexistence.

Some people do horrible things to each other every day. Much of the facts don’t matter when language turns ugly. Hurt and anger bring violence. The more the hate the stronger the response.

Unforgivable acts make us believe we should not forgive because it is not deserved. The very hard truth is in order for healing to happen, we all must let life’s anger go. Only then can we all truly produce the power to change.
