Through May 14, Art exhibit and reception: North Central College presents the artwork of Lorraine Peltz in “The Decorative Impulse” through May 14 in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave.Meet Peltz during a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 12; light refreshments will be served. Using imagery culled from both personal history and the contemporary moment, Peltz’s paintings and works on paper examine the ideas of memory, place and identity. May 4, Documentary and panel: North Central College presents a workshop, featuring former Egyptian Fulbright Scholar Maha Mourad for an opening talk, screening of the documentary “The Four Hijabs” and panel discussion. “Golden Ratio” greets visitors with more than 2,300 images to help tell the story of North Central College in the heart of Naperville—and it’s a wonder! The new Science Center is located at 131 S. Loomis St.

May 6, Climate change forum: North Central College and U.S. Rep. Bill Foster will cohost an open forum on the topic of climate change from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in the College’s Ratio Hall at the new Science Center, 131 S. Loomis St. Tom Skilling, chief meteorologist at WGN, is a featured speaker. May 6, Author visit: Anderson’s Bookshops and North Central College copresent actor Ian Harding, star of “Pretty Little Liars,” for a book-signing and photo line event at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. May 16, Speaker: North Central College welcomes Doug Sisterson, research meteorologist at Argonne National Laboratory, for a keynote address at the College’s annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research. Free and open to the public, his one-hour talk begins at 8:30 a.m. in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Sisterson is the Instrument Operations Manager for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Climate Research Facility. Admission free of charge.

May 17, Author talk: Anderson’s Bookshops and North Central College copresent The New York Times bestselling-author Rob Bell for a presentation and book signing event at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, in North Central’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. May 19, Cornerstone Day Picnic: North Central College invites the community to attend the free Cornerstone Day Celebration Picnic from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Jefferson Commons, located on the lawn east of Brainard Street at Jefferson Avenue. The free event will feature sample cuisine provided by Chartwells, the College’s food service provider, and Naperville restaurants. Entertainment will be provided by talented North Central College student performers. Cornerstone Day commemorates the College’s 1870 move to Naperville and the laying of the cornerstone for Old Main. May 19-28, Art exhibit: North Central College will present a collection of artwork by Little Friends, a nonprofit organization in Naperville that empowers clients with autism and other developmental disabilities to thrive. The free exhibit, titled “Everyone Is an Artist: The Art of Identity, Inclusion and Inspiration,” will be on display May 19 through 28 in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Meet the artists during a reception, 5:30-7 p.m., Sunday, May 21, in the gallery; refreshments will be served. May 22, Transfer information session: North Central College will host an information session Monday, May 22, for transfer students. May 23, Film: North Central College presents a free screening of the film “Homs’ Rain” with an introduction by Dr. Riad Ismat, a playwright, director and former minister of culture in Syria. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, in the College’s Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N.
