Meet Beloved Children’s Author/Illustrator William Joyce at Anderson’s Bookshop on April 5

-

Above / For six generations, Anderson’s Bookshop has been attracting all ages to experience the joys of reading. In downtown Naperville, Anderson’s is located at 123 W. Jefferson.

William Joyce

William Joyce, renowned children’s author and illustrator, has an imagination beloved by children. As a child himself, his creative bent allowed him to draw places he’d never seen, to dream of adventures he had yet to encounter and envision characters he’d want to meet. This wild and clever side eventually opened the door to Joyce’s wonderful, charming and award-winning children’s books including Bently & Egg, Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo, Santa Calls, and A Day with Wilbur Robinson.

On film and television, Joyce has made a name for himself as well, of course. His Academy Award came thanks to his roles as writer, producer and director of Fantastic Flying Books. He won three Emmy Awards for the Rolie Polie Olie TV series. He was the executive producer and writer of Epic, Rise of the Guardians, and Meet the Robinsons. Additionally, he won praise for his concept art for Toy Story and A Bug’s Life.

Meet the author at 7PM Wed., April 5

Fans can meet the author at a special booksigning event at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at Anderson’s Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave. in downtown Naperville, (630) 355-2665. Joyce will speak about his newly reissued books from the publisher’s “World of William Joyce” series of classics: Bently & Egg, Dinosaur Bob, Santa Calls, A Day with Wilbur Robinson and others. This event is free and open to the public. To join the booksigning line, please purchase one of the author’s featured re-issued books at Anderson’s Bookshop.

Guests in attendance will be entertained by the Oscar Award-winning film, Fantastic Flying Books at this free and special author event. In celebration of Bently & Egg, an egg hunt for prizes will be included in the evening’s program as well. A portion of proceeds from book sales will benefit charity.

Bently & Egg

The first re-issue is Bently & Egg, a book that introduced Bently Hopperton, an artistic frog, who’s been pressed into egg-sitting by his friend Kack Kack the Duck. Bently can’t resist painting Kack Kack’s egg, and thanks to his dazzling brushwork, his charge is soon mistaken for an Easter egg and kidnapped. How Bently gets the egg back to the nest, and what happens when Kack Kack returns, proves to be an adventure of a lifetime for a young frog.

This is a book that celebrates the joys of spring, song, friendship and fatherhood, and the spirit of adventure. No wonder this story – winner of Notable Children’s Books of 1993 (American Library Association); Best Books of 1992 (School Library Journal); and 100 Books for Reading and Sharing 1992 (NY Public Library) – is so perfect for another generation of preschoolers.
