Nutrition Knowledge – New Year, New View?

-

Well, 2017 is here and this New Year will undoubtedly bring many new “miracle” food items and new diet fads to the market. How do we determine what is real or not?

If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. The reality is that our health relies on good nutrition and effective exercise.

If there is a new super-duper food that will cure everything, beware!

There is no one fruit or one vegetable that will give us miraculous results. The reality is that the large numbers of plant nutrients (tens of thousands) that are spread across the spectrum of our produce are all necessary. We need to eat a variety of colors in our food (natural colors, not artificially colored foods) in order to nourish our bodies effectively.

Likewise, if the new fad diet promises to change us into a supermodel, beware!

There is no one “diet” that will make us lose all the weight we ever wanted. Becoming healthy isn’t about “dieting” it is about changing our lifestyle to meet our nutritional needs with foods that are: NUTRITIOUS! We need to eat the right types of foods and fit them into the calorie level we need for weight loss or maintenance. (Remember no more than 25 percent from animal sources and no less than 75 percent from plant sources.)

And it is about exercising our muscles; yes all of them, including our heart, so that we can be fit. We must put in the work to get the results. (Always consult your physician before beginning a new program.)

Enjoy a new year with a new view of how you can get healthy, and stay that way!
