One of the things I am most proud of in my Confederation presidency is our monthly meetings. Each month we focus on topics important to our members and the Naperville community. As my esteemed colleague, Dr. Bob Buckman so eloquently puts it, “where else but in Naperville do neighbors and community leaders come together on a Saturday morning to share a cup of coffee and openly and freely discuss important issues.”
For example, our meeting on Saturday morning, January 21 will feature a half dozen of our area’s State Representatives and Senators talking about their own legislative priorities and what may happen in Springfield during our State’s 100th Legislative session. Beyond the formal discussion, there will be time for audience questions and the ever-important informal “social” time prior to the meeting where we can all get to know each other better.
Something else I am proud of is our meeting discipline. Our promise to our guests and members is that the meeting will adjourn at 10AM so that everyone can move on to their other commitments and responsibilities. We keep our meeting focus on one or two important topics, allowing for a quality in-depth discussion, not soundbites, rhetoric and ‘spin.”
If you have never attended one of our meetings, you are missing an opportunity to learn, expand your horizons, share, and gain insights into information that is not only valuable, but often actionable in our homes and community. January will be a great time to experience what the Confederation has to offer, and, if you or your neighborhood is not already a member, to think about becoming part of our community focused organization.
