As I have become more involved in our community since recently becoming the CEO of Loaves & Fishes, I have encountered a wide range of family situations. While many people in our community are successful and financially thriving, there are also many who struggle to make ends meet. These are often the working poor, families where both parents work multiple jobs to pay rent and provide food and clothing for their children. Sometimes even that isn’t enough and parents have to decide between necessities, destabilizing their lives. One unexpected medical bill or job loss can tip the scales and start a downward spiral.
Loaves & Fishes has created a “Wish Book” that reflects the voices of those in need. During this holiday season, we can compare our wish list to the “wishes” of others. These are some of the “wishes” of people in our community:
- I wish for enough food for my family
- I wish for healthy food that helps me grow and not get sick
- I wish for my children to have hope for a better life
- I wish that my grandma can pay for her medicine
- I wish I knew how I was going to pay my rent next month
- I wish I had a car to drive so I can keep my job
- I wish I can find a job that allows me to support my family
- I wish I had help to become self-sufficient in my life
We live in a special community. I’m amazed at the volunteers who tirelessly serve those in need, and the donors who contribute their financial resources even when it’s a stretch for them.
We hope that you will keep in mind those in need and take action to grant them a holiday wish.
I extend my warmest holiday greetings from our Loaves & Fishes Family to yours.
