Above / Interested to see who wants to serve on Naperville’s nine-member City Council that includes the mayor? Municipal election petitions for candidacy became available Tuesday, August 30. The filing period for the April 4, 2017 Consolidated Election ended Nov. 28, 2016.

UPDATE, Nov. 28, 2016 / Three additional petitioners filed by 5PM today, the final day to file packets for the 2017 City Council race: Kevin M. Gallaher, Mike Strick and Benny White, bringing the total to eight hopefuls.
In abc order, the hopefuls are Julie Berkowicz, Judy Brodhead, Kevin Coyne, Kevin Gallaher, Mike Isaac, John Krummen, Mike Strick and Benny White. Get to know them when the opportunity presents itself! Four will be elected to set policy and approve budgets.
After petitions are validated to be sure all candidates live within the City of Naperville, etc., a lottery will be held in December to determine ballot order.
UPDATE, Nov. 21, 2016 / Today, Mon., Nov. 21, is the first day to turn in petitions to run for City Council. When the window to the City Clerk’s Office opened at 8AM, five hopefuls were in line to turn in their packets.

Beginning at 8AM Tuesday, August 30, 2016, petitions for candidacy for the 2017 Naperville municipal election became available in the City Clerk’s Office at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.
To qualify as a candidate, you must be a registered voter of the City of Naperville and have resided within the corporate limits of the City for at least one year. Petitions for nomination are filed with the City Clerk’s Office.
The filing period took place from 8AM to 5PM Monday, November 21, 2016, through Monday, November 28, 2016, excluding weekend days.
Two-year seats are up, four-year terms begin to stagger terms

Up for election in 2017 are the four two-year City Council positions that were elected into office in 2015. The terms for these positions will now be four years in order to return to staggered terms. The remaining half of Council will be up for election in 2019.
A Consolidated Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, if more than four candidates file for each Council position. The Consolidated Election will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.
