This has been quite the nostalgic year at the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA). All year long we have been celebrating bringing quality special recreation to families in Naperville and eight other DuPage communities for 40 years.
For four decades we have helped individuals with special needs and their families build friendships, connect to the community and create memories. Special recreation with WDSRA has become an important part of life for so many families. It can make so many things possible today and give promise for the future. We think that’s a pretty big deal. And so do our families.
In celebration we threw themed parties for our participants, opened up our photo vault for a look back over the years and held a ‘summer of fun’ contest. We also hosted a community-wide ‘thank you’ party complete with eight food trucks, a country music band, face painting, balloon art and inflatables. That party, the WDSRA Food Truck Festival held at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion on October 2, had approximately 1100 people celebrating with us.
We just want to say THANK YOU NAPERVILLE for your continued support!
We also want to thank the Naperville Park District for their support since that very first day our doors opened in 1976. Thank you to the thousands of part time staff and volunteers who have shared their time, talents and passion to make our programs truly exceptional. We also extend a huge thanks to the donors, sponsors, partners, and WDSRA Foundation Trustees who have lent their support over the years.
Yes, it has been quite an amazing year of celebration! Now it is time to look to the future. We invite you to continue your partnership in support of the many Naperville families who rely on WDSRA programs and services. YOU can continue making today possible and tomorrow promising!
