Pumpkin Race returns to Rotary Hill at 1PM Sat., Oct. 27, 2018
UPDATE, Oct. 19, 2018 / The 3rd Annual Pumpkin Race is slated for 1PM Sat., Oct. 27, 2018, on Rotary Hill near Moser Tower along the Riverwalk. Again, preliminary heats will advance to the finals and the big finale race.
The 2018 Pumpkin Race also will help celebrate the 11th anniversary of Turning Pointe Autism Foundation with many cheers!
What’s more, the 2018 event again will include a Costume Contest for young individuals to dress up. The best costumes will win prizes based on creativity, originality and best-race theme.

UPDATE, Oct. 15, 2016 / Seven photos from the inaugural Pumpkin Race on Oct. 15 present pretty pictures of the potential of this popular event with origins in California. Plan to participate on the track by Rotary Hill in 2017. The family-friendly event promises even more fun next year. Just don’t try to disguise a cantaloupe or a watermelon as a pumpkin under the threat of being smashed. (Click any photo to enlarge. Hosted by Turning Pointe Autism Foundation, the brand new event is designed for all ages and abilities to race a decorated pumpkin down the drive toward Moser Tower at Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk.
Get ready and set to go roll for a cause with a pre-packed pumpkin race set that includes two axles, four wheels and nuts and bolts and assembly instructions to hold the pumpkin you purchase from a local farm stand.
Rules for the Pumpkin Race also are included in the kit. For instance, watermelon and gourds are not allowed. This downhill race is for pumpkins only, organizers said.
The $20 donation per kit will benefit the friend-raising event for Turning Pointe Autism Foundation.

Be the first on your block to enter the first Pumpkin Race at Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk!
- Pick up your Pumpkin Race Kit ($20 and personally assembled by students) at Turning Pointe Autism Foundation at 1500 W. Ogden Ave. or on the day of the race.
- Assemble your pumpkin race car. Be creative with a theme of decorations. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories.
- Bring your finished pumpkin ready to race to Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk (near the Moser Tower) on Oct. 15, 2016. Preliminary heats will race between 12PM-3PM. Winners of preliminary heats will participate in final run after 3:30PM. Times will be slightly flexible, depending on the heats. Likely four or five racers will compete in every heat.
The festivities also will feature several food trucks with refreshments. A portion of the sales will benefit Turning Pointe and its mission “to assist individuals, and families as they navigate through the lifelong impact of autism.”
Admission is free. All cheers are welcome.
Students prepare Naperville Pumpkin Race Kits in 2016
During a portion of the school day, students enrolled at Turning Pointe CN Day School have been assembling 200 Naperville Pumpkin Race Kits. The students have been introduced to community spirit while learning to make a contribution that can make a difference. Five students per work session sort and count the items for each set, then the kits are checked for quality control, sealed with appropriate stickers and stacked for sale.
