Best Place to Raise a Family; Top 10 Family Town; Best Suburb to Live in Illinois; schools ranked among the best in Illinois and the country; 5 Star Public Library system; Safest City in America; Third most Successful City in America; and even home to Olympic Gold Medalists. The list of recognitions, honors and accolades for our community just keeps getting longer.
Since 1979, The Homeowners Confederation has been proud to be a part of our great community, working to strengthen our neighborhoods and provide residents with information, a voice, and an opportunity to sometimes sit at the table when great ideas and plans for Naperville’s future are being set. Our Board has been a public participation launching point for a State Representative, Mayor, City Council members, Park District leaders, School Board members and at least one Board President. We helped bring disparate together subdivisions into a cohesive community organization focused on working together, neighbor to neighbor.
Over the years we helped drive some excellent public policy, most recently by championing efforts to save trees from Emerald Ash Borer, saving community dollars and maintaining our urban forest while alternatives are given a chance to grow. Other times were more of a quixotic quest, tilting at the windmills of expansion or development, but always with fact-based arguments geared toward what we perceived was best for the community, and not simply a knee jerk “Not in My Backyard.”
I am counting down my last nine months as President of the Confederation, preparing to hand off the torch to the next generation of leadership. Upcoming meetings will look at politics, community amenities and assets, quality of life issues, and simply living in and navigating through our community. I hope to see you soon as we continue to be the Naperville Neighborhood Solution.
