UPDATE, Aug. 11, 2016 / The 3rd Judd A Thon is set for Sun., Sept. 18 at the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 with the run alongside the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion. The start time is 10:01AM.

“We realize that this is a grueling competition,” said publicist Mike Barbour, one of the organizers for the brief benefit with a big sense of humor. “We invited several Olympic marathoners to compete but they said it was too difficult for them. For your safety we will have EMT’s there to take care of any injured runners.”

As always, there will be a prize for the best costume.

“You all will have to go some to beat my costume selection this year,” said Barbour, no doubt seeing red at the thought of a better costume than the one he has created.

There is no age limit. In 2015, ages ranged from a 3-year-old to a 95-year-old, said Barbour.

Tell all your friends, family and, yes, even enemies about the Judd A Thon, Barbour added. All proceeds benefit the VFW National Home For Children, “the happiest place on earth.”

Original Post, July 15, 2016 / The Third Annual Judd A Thon returns Sun., Sept. 18, to its time-honored location behind the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 near the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion.

The start time for the .1K fun run, walk, stroll, dance or wheel is 10:01AM sharp.

Organizers promote the event as “a short run that will go a long way to help veteran and military families at the VFW National Home for Children.”

Costumed participants vie for prizes, too.

Costumes welcome!

In addition to recognizing the fastest participants in different age brackets, prizes will be awarded for the best costume.

“Everyone will have to go some to beat me this year,” added Barbour, mindful of the joy he has dressing up for the run, accompanied by his wife, Jan, and the variety of characters that showed up last year.

Age limits do not apply to the Judd A Thon. All ages are welcome.

“We had a 3-year-old and a 95-year-old run in the Judd A Thon last year,” Barbour said.

Barbour encourages the community to spread the word to friends, family “and, yes, even enemies,” about the Judd A Thon.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the VFW National Home For Children, one of the happiest places on earth, Barbour said.
