Teen’s Taste – Oswald’s is much more than a pharmacy

-

My next foodie adventure did not take me to a restaurant, but took me to my place of employment, Oswald’s Pharmacy, where I enjoy buying a Twix bar every time I work.

Oswald’s has been in business for over 140 years. They opened in historic downtown Naperville in 1875, then moved to Naperville Plaza in 2004 where they’re located at 88 West Gartner Road.

Hours are 9AM to 8PM Monday-Friday, 9AM to 6PM on Saturday and 9AM to 5PM on Sunday.

I’ve been working at Oswald’s for a year and a half and I really enjoy it. The Anderson’s make me feel like I am part of the Oswald’s family. I interviewed my boss, Wil Anderson, for this story to obtain some behind the scenes information on the store. First, I asked Wil what brought his family to Naperville and he said they were looking for a new community to open a business, and 140 years later are still serving that same community.

Oswald’s is a go-to place for many local residents for the friendly postage desk, knowledgeable pharmacy, large variety of cards, candies and very unique gifts. I asked Wil how they decide what to sell and he said that they look at what we think will be unique gifts that will draw people in and please our customers.

For special holidays, like Father’s Day on June 19, Oswald’s carries a great selection of dad gifts and candy. I asked Wil how they decide what candies to purchase and he said they always stock up on traditional favorites.

“From there we pick new products that we think will appeal to our customers,” he said.

When I asked Wil about the recent expansion, he said they saw a need for a large medical supply store and went for it.

Finally, I asked Wil where he sees Oswald’s in the next 40 years. He said, “Hopefully in Naperville serving the same community we’ve served for over 140 years!”

So the next time you need a a prescription filled, a stamp, a watch battery, a greeting card, a Cock Robin t-shirt or a unique gift for dad, stop by Oswald’s Pharmacy and tell them Jack-the-Oswald-Employee sent ya!

Hope to see you there!
