Inspired by the mission to prevent child abuse and domestic violence, Jen Odin Cavalier became a member of the Exchange Club of Naperville in April 2008.
A financial planner with Veritrust Wealth Management in Lisle, Cavilier quickly became involved, sharing her time and talents as club treasurer, then president. Early on she also raised her hand to serve as manpower chair for Ribfest, helping to fill nearly 4,000 6-hour shifts for the club’s biggest fundraiser held annually in conjunction with Independence Day in Knoch Park.
This past year, Cavalier has served as chair of the club’s Community Service Committee. Yet, her big volunteer responsibility since July 5, 2015, has been serving as Chairman of 2016 Ribfest, slated for July 1-4.
In her leadership role for Ribfest, Cavalier’s aim falls in line with her focus every day in financial planning: to provide steady, unwavering guidance in the quest to reach financial goals.
As the first four days in July quickly approach, Cavalier looks forward to putting on a fun-filled safe Ribfest that provides every visitor with an enjoyable experience.
Cavilier is enthusiastic about the fresh presentation of information and photos on the creative and colorful new Ribfest website. The Show Wagon Stage featuring local entertainment every afternoon is a new attraction that will be set in the north side of Knoch Park near the food court. Of course, she’s eager to add the new Ribfest commemorative shirt to her collection, she said. And there’s the finale of spectacular fireworks at dusk on July 4.
Mindful that since 1988 when Ribfest began, Cavalier notes that Exchange Club of Naperville has helped more than 50 nonprofit initiatives aimed at preventing domestic violence. To date, grants have totaled more than $14.5 million to meet that mission.
Looking forward, she’s hopeful for great weather and that every volunteer and guest who supports the event will know that he or she has contributed to making lives better for kids and families.
“As a music festival, barbecue festival and family festival all together in Knoch Park, Ribfest can raise major dollars for many nonprofit service organizations that fit our club’s mission,” Cavalier said. “The grants we give help provide a safety net so families can receive what they need in the time of crisis. I just want the community to know how much their support is appreciated.”
