Naperville City Notes this week with a few PN photos

-

Above / Naperville residents again will observe the true meaning of Memorial Day when veterans, Gold Star families and marching bands step in line along Jackson Ave. Spectators will show their appreciation for all the sacrifices that have protected the freedoms of this nation.

Organized by volunteers of the Naperville American Legion Post 43 and Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and other local residents, the Memorial Day Parade is slated to begin at 10:30AM Mon., May 30, followed by a 30-minute observance at the Naperville Community Concert Center in Central Park at 12:15PM.

Thanks for supporting Buddy Poppy distribution this week, too!

Safe Digging Season & Brush Pick Up

neat-brush-4-kids
Note the neat brush display, ready for pick up!

Communities are reminding people planning digging projects to call JULIE at 8-1-1 prior to beginning any work. Parkways along Naperville’s neighborhood streets (25 mph, please) have signs that JULIE has marked the spots for proposed tree locations.

Brush pick up coordinated with trash collection continues through June. Last weekend, a resident in the Countryside subdivision trimmed his dead birch tree and cut it down for curbside collection in his neighborhood that began Monday, the second week of the city’s annual service. By 6PM, the considerate resident and his children had sorted all the twigs and branches in bunches along his parkway to make pick up easier for city workers. Drive around town and you’ll likely agree that this family definitely wins the award, if there is one, for the neatest display of brush ready to be collected.

Also… Be sure to trim the low-hanging twigs on trees along your sidewalks as well as ones that obstruct the view of stop signs and other directional signs. Thanks.

Use PN’s Search tool for more details

To find more details of local happenings, use the handy search tool up on the right end of the black navigation bar for “brush collection,” “JULIE,” “Memorial Day Parade,” etc. Thanks for visiting this website for updates every day.

Thanks for local support! Shop & dine in Naperville.

Market Meadows

cory's-shoes
While checking out this small sampling of sandals, part of a large selection at Toby’s Comfort Shoes, we learned that the shoe store was named after the family dog. We love history!

If you’re looking for comfortable sandals for spring and summer, new styles are arriving regularly at Toby’s Comfort Shoes, located in Market Meadows, 75th Street and Naper Boulevard.

The independently-owned shoe store is a showcase of the best brands of casual shoes, boots, sandals and sports socks for all seasons. From narrow to double wide, many women’s sizes up to 11 and many men’s sizes up to 15, find a good, professional fit that will be comfortable from the get go.

Toby’s Comfort Shoes also carry “slip-free” shoes with arch supports for folks in service industries likely to be on their feet all day.

CityGate Centre

citygate-entrance
Did you know? Hotel Arista was awarded Four Stars by Forbes Travel Guide.

When you head to the Hotel Arista, CityGate Grille, Sugar Toad or Tap In Pub & Carvery at CityGate Centre or a new experience at Top Golf on Naperville’s northwest side, be mindful of the new traffic configuration at I-88 and Route 59 that may create a little confusion for first-time users.

As always, drive with caution according to weather conditions and observe the speed limit. The innovative diverging diamond interchange, now open, is expected to enhance traffic flow on and off I-88.

(The first diverging diamond interchange opened to traffic in the state of Illinois on I-57 at Marion on August 12, 2015. Diverging diamond interchanges are now operational in 18 states across the nation, with plans to construct them in six other states.)

Naperville offers many ways to eat your heart out…

Have you read the latest about the Independent Map Amendment?

According to recent news reports, organizers and supporters petitioning to put redrawing the Illinois District Maps question on the General Election Ballot, Nov. 8, 2016, are on their way to having the signatures they need.

Visit Independent Map Amendment to check their progress as they aim to create a nonpartisan 11-member board and “a system where the voters choose their representatives instead of the representatives choosing their voters.” (By the way, folks have been in front of the DMV in Hobson West with petitions to help get the amendment on the ballot.)

NOTICE OF CITY NOTES’ DISCONTINUATION

ray-typing-notes
Ever wonder how Ray Kinney at Blooming Color gets so many city noteworthy things accomplished?

The City of Naperville is excited to announce that on June 1, 2016, we will launch a new City website containing a robust, mobile-friendly calendar feature. All of the community events we currently list in City Notes and compile for the weekly City Link e-newsletter will be entered instead into the online calendar, which is designed to be a much more user-friendly tool for our community. Visit http://beta.naperville.il.us to see our newly-redesigned website and online calendar.

Therefore, the City Notes events listing and the City Link e-newsletter are being discontinued. The last edition as it is presented here is this week.

PN appreciates the many years of helping to present City Notes to the community every Wednesday. Cheers!
