This week’s City Notes with a few PN Photos

-

Above / March 30 is National Pencil Day! It’s a great day to take City Notes and plan a few activities midway through spring break!  If you need the latest in pencil designs and colors, find them at Oswald’s Pharmacy in Naperville Plaza where they’re preparing with other merchants for the 4th Annual Girls on Gartner to return the first Wednesday in May 2016. Take note!

Happy Springtime! Enjoy many upcoming events of the season

Discover opportunities for shopping, dining, fundraising and sporting events from all points N.E.W.S. featured in PN’s Event Guide where readers are welcome to post their events.

And read other “Latest News” you might have missed on this website where stories are saved in our archive up in the cloud to keep readers connected to this thriving community.

Enjoy peaceful walks in Central Park, throughout the Naperville Historic District and the campus of North Central College and all along the Riverwalk, too.

News reports continue to tout the relaxing benefits of spending time in the great outdoors especially when the sun shines. We are grateful our city is plentiful with parks and sidewalks.

Think green! Shop and dine in downtown Naperville!

Irish-Way
Find authentic Irish imports at 107 W. Jefferson every day in downtown Naperville.

Sales! Sales! Sales! Venture to downtown Naperville, a happening place chock full of bargains and many reasons to window shop and go inside, too. Discover many spring styles to spiffy up any wardrobe.

Spring always is a great time to come downtown to renew your fashionable ways. Shop from shop to shop to check out the latest in spring fashion and discover the perfect place to spend time with family and friends, then arrange a dining experience this weekend or spring break any time.

From the Main Street Promenade to Washington Corners, Dean’s Fine Clothing to Anderson’s Bookshop and all points in between, find plenty of reasons to shop, have books signed, dine and be entertained by all the new development in the city’s central business district, including buds on trees!

And if you’re planning to put your house on the market this spring, The Irish Way has an assortment of St. Joseph statues to help speed the selling process.

Naperville Plaza

arnie-pencils
Meet Arnie at Oswald’s U.S. Post Office!

Plan ahead for spring holidays with novelty gifts, greeting cards, colorfully-wrapped candies and other supplies at Oswald’s Pharmacy where there’s a convenient U.S. Post Office location in Naperville Plaza.  Arnie’s there much of the time to help with watch batteries and he’ll even point you in the right direction to find pencils on this National Pencil Day, March 30.

In addition, Oswald’s recently added a new Medical Equipment Showroom with all kinds of items to keep folks of all ages moving. Oswald’s new showroom also has the largest selection of lift chairs and other devices to give a little lift.

Ask to see what Oswald’s got going for all the other spring holidays, too.

Also stop by Casey’s Foods where you’ll find all the meats are a cut above all others and a gourmet deli offers delicious items good for the heart ready to go.

Spend your money where your heart and home are!

Think and shop locally. Recirculate dollars into the local economy whenever possible. Remember many local businesses offer online services and home delivery.

And look for other independents displaying the bright red IndieBound Naperville sign in Naperville Plaza such as First Community Financial Bank where they recently celebrated their first $1 billion in assets! First Community also handed out special coupons during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade to help raise funds and awareness for St. Baldrick’s Foundation. If you took one, stop by the bank to check to see if you’re a gift card winner by March 31!

Market Meadows

cory's-shoes
While checking out this small sampling of sandals, part of a large selection at Toby’s Comfort Shoes, we learned that the shoe store was named after the family dog. We love history!

If you’re looking for comfortable sandals for spring and summer, new styles are arriving regularly at Toby’s Comfort Shoes, located in Market Meadows, 75th Street and Naper Boulevard.

The independently-owned shoe store is a showcase of the best brands of casual shoes, boots, sandals and socks for all seasons. From narrow to double wide, many women’s sizes up to 13 and many men’s sizes up to 15, find a good, professional fit that will be comfortable from the get go. Toby’s Comfort Shoes also carry “slip-free” shoes with arch supports for folks in service industries likely to be on their feet all day.

CityGate Centre

citygate-entrance
Did you know? Hotel Arista was awarded Four Stars by Forbes Travel Guide. Read all about it in the March issue of PN, available now!

When you head to the Hotel Arista, CityGate Grille, Sugar Toad or Tap In Pub & Carvery at CityGate Centre or a new experience at Top Golf on Naperville’s northwest side, be mindful of the new traffic configuration at I-88 and Route 59 that may create a little confusion for first-time users.

As always, drive with caution according to weather conditions and observe the speed limit. The innovative diverging diamond interchange, now open, is expected to enhance traffic flow on and off I-88.

(The first diverging diamond interchange opened to traffic in the state of Illinois on I-57 at Marion on August 12, 2015. Diverging diamond interchanges are now operational in 18 states across the nation, with plans to construct them in six other states.)

Naperville offers many ways to eat your heart out…

Have you read the latest about the Independent Map Amendment?

According to recent news reports, organizers and supporters petitioning to put redrawing the Illinois District Maps question on the General Election Ballot, Nov. 8, 2016, are on their way to having the signatures they need.

Visit Independent Map Amendment to check their progress as they aim to create a nonpartisan 11-member board and “a system where the voters choose their representatives instead of the representatives choosing their voters.”
