Chuck Papanos, North Parks and Riverwalk Operations Manager for the Naperville Park District, is one of several individuals in the community who will be recognized by the Exchange Club of Naperville at their annual One Nation Under God Breakfast on March 19.

Papanos will receive the American Spirit Award, which “acknowledges members of the community whose actions demonstrate a commitment to a CAN DO spirit in their work and interactions with others,” according to a press release from the Exchange Club.

A familiar face to many folks who frequent the Riverwalk, Papanos oversees the maintenance of the community’s natural treasure as well as all of the Park District’s northern parks.

He also serves as the Naperville Park District’s staff liaison on the City of Naperville’s Riverwalk Commission, the Millennium Carillon Foundation and the Jaycees’ Last Fling committee. Papanos came to the Park District in 2001 and holds a BS from the University of Connecticut in Ornamental Horticulture.

Papanos clearly enjoys his work and the satisfaction of knowing how it benefits people in the community.

“It’s great to hear compliments about the annual flowers on the Riverwalk, and that Little League parents appreciate having such a nice field at Centennial Park for the kids to play on,” explained Papanos. “And after the Healing Field flags are up, watching veterans and their families walk through the flags and tell their stories is very moving. I know then that we have participated in something good.”

“Chuck Papanos is the most passionate, mission-driven individual I have ever worked with,” said Executive Director Ray McGury. “The Naperville community has benefitted so greatly from Chuck’s contributions and leadership. When you visit the Riverwalk and enjoy all of its beauty and splendor, think of Chuck and his crew,” added McGury. “I’m personally grateful to the Exchange Club of Naperville for recognizing one great guy.”

The One Nation Under God Breakfast sponsored by the Exchange Club of Naperville begins at 9AM on Saturday, March 19, in the Pavilion at Meson Sabika. Cost of the breakfast is $20.
