Pet Words of Wisdom – Helping Animals

-

Recently I witnessed and thankfully participated in a community of people for the sole reason of helping animals.
Our day started very early with messages back and forth from my end while Elanna Bradley who runs Puppy Rescue 911 in southern Chester, Illinois, was dealing with 16 dogs and two cats and their eventual transport to Naperville. A blizzard was happening at the time.

The original transport person slid off the road and could not continue on her way to pick up the animals. Faced with animals and no way to get them here, we went into overdrive trying to find a way via many calls on both ends, Facebook posts and more.

Finally, two of the kindest folks I have met in some time offered to make the drive. A normally 5.5 hour journey took well over seven hours of white knuckle driving to complete. The animals arrived safely here at 9:30PM that night. Those people are heroes as they helped save 16 dogs and two cats by delivering them here safely.

I want to commend Sean and Maggie of my staff for volunteering to stay late after work and help settle in all of the animals. The next morning I delivered all of these animals to Naperville Animal Hospital to get them checked out and give them what they need. A whole team of vets and techs there worked furiously to get all the animals settled.

I sit here thinking about all the people who saved these animals. From pulling them out of shelters, to rounding them up and getting them here to caring for them and finding them homes once here. It really does restore your faith in human kind.

No matter the bad guys out there abusing or abandoning animals as well as people who can no longer afford to keep their companion animals, for every bad thing you might hear, there are even more teams of people doing all they can to help. I am proud to count myself among them.

Similar scenarios are carried out every week here at Dog Patch. I could not be more proud.
