Can you believe it?! This year, the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) is celebrating 40 years of bringing special recreation to Naperville families. That is four decades of building friendships, connecting to the community and creating memories.
Special recreation is such an important part of life for so many families. They watch their loved ones blossom as they build confidence and self-esteem through WDSRA’s social and recreational programs. Having a place where family members feel comfortable allowing them to establish friendships and connect with their community is something upon which the entire family depends. Wonderful memories are made and a rich full life is being lived right here in Naperville.
We have come a long way since that one summer camp and a bowling program in 1976. We couldn’t have done it without the guidance and support of the Naperville Park District who (along with the Park Districts of Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and West Chicago) had the vision to create WDSRA in order to better serve families with special needs. We are thankful for the thousands of part time staff and volunteers who have shared a passion to treat everyone with dignity and respect over the years. We are grateful for each and every one of the donors, sponsors, partners, and WDSRA Foundation Trustees who have helped make WDSRA what it is today.
Forty years is certainly a milestone. But it is the positive and profound impact that TOGETHER we have had on the lives of our families that makes us proud.
It is the continuing support of the entire Naperville community that is Making Today Possible & Tomorrow Promising for each one of the children, teens and adults at WDSRA. We THANK YOU!
