What a year we’ve had!
We’ve saved hundreds of animal lives, finding homes for the forgotten and unwanted dogs and cats of Illinois. Our rescue partner Elanna Bradley of Puppy Rescue 911 has been a joy to work with all year. Working together we’ve placed so many wonderful animals that faced a certain death. Loads of puppies, too. Those puppies would have been put down just as quickly as any other dog. Sometimes space is an issue and it doesn’t matter who is taking it up. It’s a very harsh world.
As I’ve mentioned earlier this year, I think it’s time to address and help with that space issue. Naperville needs to pass some legislation to end the sale of puppies from puppy mills. Community after community from across the country has done so. Those laws have faced court challenges up to the federal level. Well-written laws have weathered the scrutiny of all levels of judicial review. It’s time for Naperville to act. We, as a community, can do better. Please let your city council members know you want to do more as a community to put an end to the practice of commercially bred dogs and cats. The world will be a better place.
This is a crazy time of year in the pet world. We’ve practically shouted the message for years and will continue to preach, “GIFT CARDS NOT GIFT PETS!”
Please make getting a pet a family decision. Please let your child be part of the decision. A pet chosen by the child, mom, dad or whomever the pet is for forms a bond that can’t be found by a pet that is chosen for them. Frankly, pets as gifts just rarely work out. It’s just not a good idea.
We are loaded with the perfect treats, toys, coats, boots, foods and gifts for the holidays! And, of course, gift certificates.
Happy Holidays from all of us at Dog Patch!
