Pay attention before primary day

-

November 30 was the final day to file to be officially on the ballot in the 2016 Primary Election on March 15.
Naperville voters will elect a U.S. Senator and a Congressman to send to Washington. Considering how the districts are divided, Naperville is served in Congress by the 6th, 11th and 14th Districts.

For starters, the following candidates have filed for Democratic and Republican primary contests.

U.S. Senate / Hopefuls for Democratic U.S. Senate are U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates, State Sen. Napoleon Harris of Harvey, and former Chicago Urban League CEO Andrea Zopp of Chicago. Two Republicans, James Marter of Oswego and Elizabeth Pahlke of Arlington Heights, have joined U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk of Highland Park to run for the seat Kirk currently holds.

6th District / U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, a Wheaton Republican, is being challenged by Gerald Drabik of Glen Ellyn and Gordon “Jay” Kinzler of Glen Ellyn.

Democrats Amanda Howland of Lake Zurich and Robert Marshall of Burr Ridge filed to run.

11th District / Republican DuPage County Board member Tonia Khouri of Aurora, Nick Stella of Darien and Herman White of Naperville have filed to run against Democrat Bill Foster of Naperville.

14th District / Three Democrat hopefuls — John Hosta of Spring Grove and Jesse Maggitt of Plainfield and Jim Walz of Gurnee — have filed to compete against Republican U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren of Plano.

Considering the season, PN will give you a little holiday break from too much political talk.

In January, the PN Election Guide will be up and running online listing all the local candidates seeking to serve Naperville in Washington. Springfield, DuPage County, Will County and six townships.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
