Chartered in 1991, the Rotary Club of Naperville / Sunrise is comprised of dedicated members who share a passion for both community service and friendship.
Throughout the year, the Rotarians who meet weekly for breakfast on Friday, at the Naperville Country Club, plan events and fundraisers in the spirit of “Service Above Self.”
During December, Rotary Sunrise will present Naper Lights at Naper Settlement to bring holiday cheer to the community while also sponsoring clothing and gift giving drives to benefit neighbors in need.
According to President Lisa Pinto, the third annual Naper Lights will be aglow from 5PM to 9PM every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until Dec. 31. Thousands of festive holiday lights and large brightly colored animated displays will welcome the community to stroll the grounds throughout the outdoor history village.
Admission is without charge, but good-will donations from visitors are welcomed. Proceeds will benefit Naperville Sunrise Rotary community projects in Naperville, DuPage County and internationally that support the needs of youth, young adults and families.
Rotary volunteers also have placed collection boxes throughout Naperville until December 12 to accept donations of new and slightly-used coats, jackets, hats, gloves, scarves and mittens for its 2015 Winter Clothing Drive. Warm winter clothing will be distributed through Hesed House, DuPage PADS and Sharing Connections. All sizes, infant through adult, are accepted, but the need is great for men’s and women’s size XL, 2XL and 3XL, Pinto said.
The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise also partners with Naperville Community Unit School District 203 to participate in a Holiday Gift Giving Project, providing gifts for elementary and junior high school students recommended by social workers. Sunrise Rotarians purchase and wrap gifts which are delivered to school social workers, who distribute them to the parents of the students. Last year, 661 gifts were distributed.
