Naperville Police Department’s Accreditation Assessment Team Seeks Public Comment

Naperville PoliceA team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive November 30, 2015, to conduct a Gold Standard Assessment examining all aspects of the Naperville Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

Verification by the team that the Naperville Police Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain continued Advanced Accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. This Assessment will be the first time that the Naperville Police Department’s law enforcement and Communications programs will be reviewed concurrently by CALEA.

The Naperville Police Department has been accredited since 1992 and its Communications Section has been accredited since 2001. As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team.

The public may call (630) 305-5299 on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 1, 2015, between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

Public Information Forum 7PM Dec. 1

Following the call-in session, a Public Information Forum will be held at 7PM on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in the Community Room located at the Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave., Naperville, Illinois, to allow all interested persons to speak directly with the CALEA assessors.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the Public Information Forum are limited to ten (10) minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available for review at the Naperville Police Department. Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Naperville Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation may write to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. Assessment Process

The assessment process will be conducted by Chief Vincent Line of the Arapahoe County, Colorado, Sheriff’s Office, Ms. Zeta Fail of the College Station, Texas, Police Department, and Mr. David Dishong of the Nebraska State Patrol. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and conduct a facility inspection for evidence of compliance.

Once the assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report back to the Commission, who will then decide if the police department will be granted accreditation status. Accreditation is for three years, during which time the police department will submit annual reports documenting continued compliance with standards.
