Glorious sunshine greeted the Family Shelter Service’s annual 10K/5K Run-Walk on Sunday morning, October 25. For 2015, the event held at the Athletic Field in Downers Grove attracted nearly 500 supporters and raised $35,000 to benefit programs and services for people in our community trapped by domestic abuse.
In addition to the 10K/5K Run-Walk, the event featured other special activities, including a Kids’ One-Mile Run, pumpkin-decorating, face painting and an obstacle course just for children.
Above / The Urrieta family from Villa Park participated to show that all ages can heighten awareness for Family Shelter Service at Be a Hero for Hope.
Many participants came dressed in costumes depicting their favorite hero or superhero, creating a colorful spectacle against the backdrop of changing autumn leaves. Once again, the top fundraising team, bringing in more than $5,000, was Completely Crazy, a Rocky Horror Picture Show performance troupe that entertains weekly at Hollywood Boulevard in Woodridge, IL.
