Structure Fire 2700 block of Cedar Glade Dr., Naperville, Illinois
At 6:48 PM on Friday evening (10/30/15), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call reporting a fire at the 2700 block of Cedar Glade, the call was received from a passerby. PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 3 engine companies, 2 truck companies, 1 squad, 2 ambulances, 2 alternate response vehicles, an incident commander and a safety officer to the scene, 26 personnel.
Naperville’s Fire Engine 10 was first on the scene, within 5 minutes, and reported smoke showing from the front of a duplex.
The engine officer immediately determined that the fire had originated on the exterior but was potentially within the structure and began aggressive overhaul operations to determine the location of hidden fire. As crews arrived they secured a water supply and placed an attack line in place to extinguish spot fires on the exterior of the structure and to protect the interior contents.
It was immediately determined that all occupants had self-evacuated prior to FD arrival, however a search was also conducted as a precautionary measure. Crews evacuated smoke from the residence and conducted an assessment on the adjoining residential structure. No damage was reported to the second unit and the residents were allowed back inside.
The fire unit sustained damage to the exterior and some smoke staining to the interior but was deemed habitable by the Transportation Engineering and Development Inspector on the scene. The residents were allowed back into the structure when the fire department released the response vehicles from the scene.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, originating on the front porch, by the Naperville Fire Investigation Team. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police Department. Fire units from the Plainfield, Aurora and Bolingbrook Fire agencies provided station coverage during this incident. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or citizens.
