At 8:08AM on Saturday morning (Oct. 24, 2015), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received an alarm notification from an outside alarm monitoring company reporting an activated fire alarm in a multi-family residential structure at the 1200 block of Tennyson. PSAP immediately dispatched a One and One response consisting of a squad company and truck company (6 personnel).
While enroute to the incident, PSAP received a second call from a neighbor reporting flames could be seen inside the residence, PSAP immediately upgraded the assignment to a general alarm bringing an additional 2 engines, 2 trucks, 2 medics an incident commander and safety officer to the scene. A total of 24 personnel.
The first unit arrived on the scene at 8:14 reporting nothing showing from the front of a two-story, multi-family residence, crews forced entry and encountered heavy smoke throughout the residence. Fire attack was initiated by the first arriving squad and truck companies and a secure water supply established. A fire attack hose line was deployed to the first floor and crews were able to locate, confine and extinguish a fire within the kitchen area of the residence.
Simultaneously, the truck company began an aggressive search for occupants and determined that no one was inside the structure. Crews rescued a family dog and provided first aid on the scene, but unfortunately did also remove a deceased family cat.
As additional fire units arrived they assisted with salvage and overhaul operations. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. The home sustained extensive fire and smoke damage, no damage to adjoining residential units.
