It seems I have quite a few days each month that start with that line, but this experience was a wake-up call.
You see, I called to order three copies of the latest book from Scott Ian, guitarist for metal band Anthrax, as well as three copies of Sammy Hagar’s latest. As both authors were doing signings here in town, I ordered one for myself and one for each of the kids for each event. I hung up the phone thinking, “Boy, is Nathaniel going to love meeting Scott Ian and Sammy Hagar!”
Then it hit me.
My son no longer lives in my house! Yes, his college boarding is only temporary, but he would not be available to do these types of things with dad anymore, at least not on the weekdays. It was a harsh reality that hit me like an Anthrax power chord. It made me hug my youngest just a little bit tighter.
Bridget and I attended each of these events in which these great musicians/authors took the time to sign books and answer audience questions. It was two more memorable evenings made possible by one of the pillars of our community, Anderson’s Bookshop. I can only hope that Nathaniel is making lasting memories of his own.
P.S. This kid at college thing is really strange… Definitely takes some getting used to. By the way, I have a really bad selfie with Sammy Hagar, but this is definitely the better photo.
